Kesha has opened up about the mental effects of her ongoing legal battles
Following what can only be described as a tumultuous few years, Kesha has opened up about the mental effects of her ongoing legal troubles, and it’s breaking our hearts.
Without going into too much detail about the singer’s legal dealings, the star is embroiled in a case with producer and songwriter Dr Luke. The singer has tried and failed to be released from her recording contract with Dr Luke’s label, a subsidiary of Sony Music, and things have become rather complicated.
Now in a new video interview, Kesha has opened up about the toll the last few years have had on her.
Speaking to Viceland music show Noisey, named after Vice‘s music arm, Kesha was interviewed in her home town of Nashville, where she spoke about her affinity for the city and it’s musical heritage, and her experiences over the last few years.
When asked how the legal battles had impacted her emotionally, Kesha can be seen getting visibly upset as she discusses her experiences.
“When you work really hard at something, then to have it taken away from you is pretty devastating,” she said. “I worked my ass off for a lot of years to be able to do it: I sang backup vocals and the first couple songs I was on, I didn’t give a fuck because I just had this one vision. Once you earn that and make that happen, then to have it taken away from you is pretty devastating.
“It is definitely a mind fuck.”
Kesha goes on to say that she really wants people to see that she has “pipes.”
“I think I am just like finding my voice in the world,” she said, “and so the past three years has been me taking my center and myself back and my voice.”
We’re 100% rooting for Kesha and glad that among the turmoil she’s been able to assess what’s important in her life and, as she says, find her voice. We’re super inspired by her resolve, and can’t wait to see what 2017 has to offer.
